No visit to Oban would be complete without popping in to one (or maybe two) of the local pubs. Here’s a guide to 6 of the best. Fine food, stunning views and delectable local brews are all waiting to be enjoyed, along with a warm, Scottish welcome. And of course, there’s the whisky…
Cuan Mor
This stylish and friendly bar and restaurant overlooks beautiful Oban Bay and serves an excellent selection of delicious, home cooked food and a fine array of local brews. The Cuan Mor is also home to the Oban Bay Brewery where an impressive range of ales is produced. The brewery has its own cosy bar dedicated to the enjoyment of an exceptional collection of whiskies – 100 to be precise!
The Lorne Bar
Located in the heart of Oban, the Lorne is a traditional and lively pub. This is the place for locally caught seafood and seriously tasty steak pies, accompanied by a glass of fine wine or a pint of draught beer. This is a cask marque accredited pub, so you’ll be savouring cask ales of the highest quality. At weekends there’s usually a great live band or DJ, so be ready to enjoy yourself at The Lorne Bar Oban.
Markie Dan’s
You’ll find Markie Dan’s in the basement of the Corran House Hotel on the outskirts of Oban. Hearty bar food, fine ales, and an extensive choice of whiskies will keep you well fed and watered. The sea view from the patio beer garden is the best in Oban, whilst indoors there’s Sky Sports, live music and a pool table if the weather’s nippy.
Aulay’s Bar
Aulay’s is situated in the centre of town and is popular with locals and visitors. A unique collection of prints celebrating Oban’s maritime heritage is proudly displayed throughout, and the traditional Scottish menu is delicious. Aulay’s is the place to met friends, play dominos or enjoy a spot of footie on the large screen television.
Coasters Bar
Coasters sits on the harbour front and is a great place to watch the world go by. The home cooked food is scrumptious and there’s plenty to tempt you at the well stocked bar. This is a bustling bar with a friendly atmosphere. For the best views over Oban Bay you need to arrive early to claim a window spot, but it’s certainly worth it.
The Corryvrekan
This large, modern pub stands on the former Railway Quay with great views over the harbour. The Corryvrekan is a good place for families with an extensive and reasonably priced menu, and a vast selection of drinks. The kiddies can run around in the beer garden (weather permitting) and there’s a good view of the ferries departing for the Islands.
